Jen McCaffery is director of commerce for the Science, Tech, & Outdoor brands at Recurrent. She enjoys editing and writing about innovations in health, science, technology, sustainability, and the outdoors. She’s been surprised by how much she has taken to spreadsheets.

Experience

Jen started out as a freelance fact checker for magazines in New York City. She then decided to get some reporting experience and found herself in Virginia covering federal courts, local government, health, and public safety. She moved to the Ocean State, where she worked for Rhode Island Monthly and took full advantage of the state’s generous beach pass policy. After stints at Prevention and Reader’s Digest, she’s happy to be back in New York City, working on the commerce side for Popular Science, Popular Photography, and other brands.

Education

Jen earned her B.A. from the College of the Holy Cross in Massachusetts, where she wrote for the school newspaper. After a brief foray into educational publishing, she earned a Master’s degree from the Graduate School of Journalism at Columbia University.

If you combined the length of all the capillaries in the human brain, they would stretch about 400 miles.
